Benefits of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin to allow lighter, brighter, newer skin to grow. Chemical peels have been used since ancient times to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Modern chemical peels don’t just make you look younger; they can also address skin conditions like acne, melasma, and even precancerous growths. Let’s look at the benefits of skin peels.
Chemical Skin Peels Can Make You Look Younger
Many people get chemical peels for cosmetic reasons. Mild chemical peels remove a portion of the epidermis, or upper layer of the skin. They can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin tone, and improve skin texture.
Medium-depth skin peels remove more of the surface of the skin, penetrating down to the dermis, or secondary layer of the skin. Medium-depth skin peels can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, providing results that last much longer than those associated with mild peels.
Deep peels are used to treat deep wrinkles, the most severe hyperpigmentation, and the worst scarring. Deep peels can dramatically improve the appearance of your skin.
Skin Peels Protect Skin Health
Modern medical grade chemical peels aren’t just used for cosmetic purposes. These skin peels can address a number of skin conditions, ranging from acne to melanoma. Mild chemical peels are often used to treat acne, since they help to keep pores clean. For sun damage and hyperpigmentation problems like melasma, medium-depth peels are often more effective. Medium-depth and deep peels are also used to treat severe acne.
Skin Peels May Reverse Sun Damage
Many people get chemical peels to remove sun spots, age spots or other types of hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage. Mild and medium-depth chemical peels can remove sun spots, freckles and sun damage, or help the discoloration fade especially in combination with photo light therapies. Medical grade peels can be used in combination with microderms, fractionals and medical grade skin care for an incredible non-invasive transformation of your skin.
About the Peeling Process
For all peels, the amount of “peeling” that occurs is dependent on the state of your skin. If you have had many peels, your skin won’t have much dead skin to “peel.” If you have never had a peel before, then your skin may have a lot of buildup and it may take several peels before you start to peel significantly. This is one reason why we recommend a series of peels. If you have never had a peel before it will be difficult to predict how much peeling you will have. We suggest you be prepared for significant peeling and plan accordingly with your lifestyle. The Jessner is a gentle peel, which is why it’s recommended for first time peelers or as maintenance. The real benefit to a chemical peel is what’s happening underneath the top layer of the skin, the stimulation of collagen growth. The short term benefit is the peeling of the top layer of skin. The goal with chemical peels is to stimulate healthy internal cells so that new healthy outer layers of skin will regenerate over time giving your skin a beautiful, healthy glow.
